About Me
My name is Jenny Duffy and I am a fourth year psychology undergraduate student at the University of Prince Edward Island.
I am also an Early Childhood Educator with a special interest in animal ethics. This interest for me began a year before taking the Early Childhood Care and Education program when my husband Josh and I got a pet hamster. Caring for this hamster and experiencing her personality and bond with us changed our view on animals dramatically. Josh and I both switched to a vegan diet and began studying animal ethics. As I studied early childhood education it seemed only natural to apply what I was learning about animal ethics to my work, and to begin questioning the way we present animals to young children. Knowing that the early years are foundational for learning and development I began to wonder if children could adopt a different view of animals than what is dominant in our culture if we discussed animal ethics with them and made careful selection about which animal items to include in the class room. I hope to continue this study into my post-graduation studies.
